Reem Saraya, Stagiaire en droit

Reem est récemment diplômée de la Faculté de droit de l’Université de Calgary. Elle est également titulaire d’une maîtrise en affaires publiques et internationales de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Avant de se lancer dans le droit, elle a travaillé dans le développement des politiques au sein du gouvernement fédéral et a ensuite contribué à l’élaboration de politiques et de lois pour une communauté des Premières Nations en Colombie-Britannique.

Pendant ses études en droit, Reem a travaillé avec l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations des Nations Unies à Genève. Elle s’est aussi investie activement au sein de Pro Bono Students Canada, où elle a agi comme responsable de projet pour le Human Rights Project. Elle a également été membre puis présidente de la Labour and Employment Law Association.

Dans ses temps libres, Reem aime voyager, cuisiner et profiter du plein air.

Jasman Mangat, Stagiaire en droit

Jasman poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université Thompson Rivers. Avant d’entreprendre son parcours en droit, elle a complété ses études de premier cycle à l’Université Mount Royal, avec une majeure en psychologie et une mineure en administration des affaires.

Au cours de ses études en droit, Jasman a assumé des rôles de leadership, notamment comme cofondatrice et coprésidente du TRU Legal Networking Club. Ce club vise à redéfinir la manière dont les étudiants abordent le réseautage, en favorisant des liens significatifs et en développant des compétences essentielles à la croissance professionnelle. Jasman a également joué un rôle déterminant dans la création de la TRU Sikh Student Association et continue d’y contribuer comme gestionnaire bénévole des médias sociaux. De plus, elle soutient activement les étudiants de première année en les mentorant à titre d’étudiante avancée et en dirigeant le comité d’orientation des 1L.

Dans ses temps libres, Jasman aime jouer au basketball, rester active et faire de la randonnée. Elle partage aussi sa passion pour le sport en regardant des matchs de hockey et de basketball avec ses amis et sa famille.

Jacob Benson, Étudiant d’été

Jacob poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université Thompson Rivers. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, il a complété un baccalauréat en sociologie à l’Université de Victoria.

Jacob s’est fortement impliqué dans la communauté juridique tout au long de son parcours en droit. Il est actuellement membre exécutif du Oral Advocacy Club, du Human Rights Club et du International Law Club, et il a été responsable du Pro Bono Students Canada Trans ID Clinic. L’un des moments forts de son passage à la faculté de droit a été sa participation à la Canadian Jessup Competition 2025.

Dans ses temps libres, Jacob aime faire du snowboard et courir le long de la digue pendant l’été.

Bhavneet Parmar, Étudiant d’été

Bhavneet poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université de l’Alberta. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, elle a complété un baccalauréat ès arts en justice criminelle à l’Université de la Vallée du Fraser, où elle a acquis une expérience juridique pratique grâce à des stages dans un cabinet d’avocats à service complet et auprès du service juridique interne de l’université.

Durant l’année scolaire, Bhavneet demeure très impliquée tant dans la vie juridique qu’étudiante — elle fait du bénévolat auprès de Student Legal Services of Edmonton, représente ses pairs au sein de la Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers et a endossé son rôle de recrue dans l’équipe féminine de rugby en droit. Elle a également travaillé à temps partiel comme assistante de recherche, se consacrant à l’examen des poursuites liées à la traite de personnes.

Au-delà du milieu académique, Bhavneet est cofondatrice d’une initiative locale sans but lucratif venant en aide aux personnes en situation d’itinérance dans la Vallée du Fraser. Elle est passionnée par l’accès à la justice, la défense des droits axée sur l’équité et le renforcement des communautés. Dans ses temps libres, on la retrouve en train de rester active, d’explorer le plein air ou de se plonger dans un bon livre.

Jacob D'Andrea, Étudiant d’été

Jacob poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université Thompson Rivers. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, il a obtenu un baccalauréat ès arts en histoire de l’Université Simon Fraser, avec distinction. Avant d’entrer à la faculté de droit, Jacob a travaillé dans le domaine de l’assurance, d’abord comme courtier en assurance, puis comme souscripteur aux renouvellements, acquérant ainsi une expérience précieuse.

Dans ses temps libres, Jacob aime passer du temps de qualité avec ses amis et sa famille, lire, jouer à des jeux vidéo et rester actif.

Il est enthousiaste à l’idée de se joindre au bureau de Vancouver de DWF et se réjouit d’acquérir une expérience juridique pratique tout en apprenant auprès de ses collègues.

Jocelyn Toledo, Étudiante d’été

Jocelyn poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université de Victoria. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, elle a obtenu un diplôme en art dramatique à la Vancouver Acting School ainsi qu’un baccalauréat ès arts en sociologie et en droit et société, avec distinction, de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique.

Jocelyn est très impliquée dans la communauté de la faculté de droit de l’UVic et agit comme tutrice pour les étudiants de première année. Elle a occupé plusieurs rôles de leadership, notamment comme représentante de première année à la Law Students’ Society, présidente de la UVic Pan-Asian Law Society, présidente du UVic Wills, Estates and Trusts Club et membre de l’exécutif de la section universitaire de l’Association des avocats plaidants de la Colombie-Britannique. Jocelyn a également été clinicienne à la Business Law Clinic de l’UVic, où elle a aidé de petits entrepreneurs à régler leurs enjeux juridiques. Elle a aussi participé à Ottawa à la Canadian Client Consultation Competition Moot, où elle s’est classée parmi les demi-finalistes.

Avant la faculté de droit, Jocelyn a travaillé comme adjointe juridique dans divers cabinets et comme coordonnatrice des horaires à la Cour suprême de la Colombie-Britannique. Elle fait également du bénévolat auprès du Residential Tenancy Program d’Access Pro Bono et a représenté des clients devant la Commission de la location résidentielle. Elle est passionnée par une carrière en litige et par le bénévolat au sein d’organismes sans but lucratif afin de favoriser l’accès à la justice.

Dans ses temps libres, Jocelyn aime suivre des cours de Pilates et de vélo-spinning, et amener son chien Bowser au parc canin.

Amalia Silberman, Étudiante d’été

Amalia poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à la Lincoln Alexander School of Law (TMU). Elle a complété un baccalauréat spécialisé ès sciences à l’Université Queen’s, avec une majeure en sciences de la vie et une mineure en français. Elle a également obtenu un certificat d’études supérieures de l’Ontario en recherche clinique du Humber College.

Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, Amalia a travaillé dans le domaine de la santé comme analyste en recherche clinique, acquérant une solide expérience en service à la clientèle, en gestion de projets et en résolution de problèmes complexes. Elle continue d’appliquer et de développer ces compétences tout au long de ses études juridiques. À la faculté de droit, Amalia s’est investie dans plusieurs rôles de leadership, notamment comme vice-présidente aux finances de la Jewish Law Student Association et comme rédactrice étudiante pour la Wrongful Conviction Law Review. Elle souhaite continuer à perfectionner ses compétences et à les mettre en pratique dans sa carrière juridique.

En dehors de l’école, Amalia aime regarder des émissions de téléréalité compétitive et des documentaires sur le crime, rester active, passer ses étés en bateau sur le lac Simcoe et passer du temps avec ses amis, sa famille et ses deux chats, Baloo et Darwin.

Amanda Krantz, Étudiante d’été

Amanda poursuit actuellement un Juris Doctor canadien et américain à l’Université de Windsor et à l’Université de Detroit Mercy. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat spécialisé ès arts de l’Université de Waterloo, où elle a obtenu son diplôme avec distinction, avec une majeure en études juridiques et une mineure en droits de la personne.

Au cours de ses études postsecondaires, Amanda a fait du bénévolat auprès de plusieurs organismes de justice sociale, notamment la section du Innocence Project de l’Université de Waterloo, où elle a occupé le poste de présidente. Elle occupe actuellement le poste de représentante étudiante pour la section de l’Université de Windsor de la LEAF ainsi que pour la section If/When/How: Lawyers for Reproductive Justice de Detroit Mercy. De plus, elle soutient la communauté de sa faculté de droit en tant que mentore, ambassadrice étudiante et assistante de recherche à Windsor Law.

Dans ses temps libres, Amanda aime rester active, explorer la ville et passer du temps avec ses amis et sa famille.

Mark Ibrahim, Étudiant d’été

Mark poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à la Osgoode Hall Law School. Il est titulaire d’un baccalauréat spécialisé en commerce de la Lang School of Business de l’Université de Guelph, où il a travaillé comme assistant de recherche au département du comportement des consommateurs.

Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, Mark a travaillé comme agent immobilier pour le gouvernement de l’Ontario, où il s’occupait de l’acquisition et de la cession de propriétés au nom du ministère.

Pendant ses études en droit, Mark a acquis une expérience pratique en droit de l’emploi dans un cabinet boutique, où il a été impliqué dans des dossiers de litige devant la Cour des petites créances. Il a également participé à des compétitions de cas, ce qui a éveillé son intérêt pour le litige commercial. Il est enthousiaste à l’idée de continuer à développer ses compétences avec l’équipe de DWF.

En dehors du bureau, Mark aime courir des marathons, participer à des triathlons et cuisiner pour ses amis et sa famille.

Navjot Mann, Étudiant d’été

Navjot poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à la Lincoln Alexander School of Law de la Toronto Metropolitan University. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat spécialisé ès sciences en sciences de la vie avec une mineure en durabilité de l’Université McMaster.

Navjot apporte à ses études en droit une solide expérience en recherche, en plaidoyer et en travail axé sur l’équité. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, elle a travaillé comme assistante de recherche à Unity Health Toronto, contribuant à des projets internationaux visant à promouvoir des soins de santé équitables. Son travail consistait notamment à appuyer des revues systématiques, à rédiger du matériel de vulgarisation et à collaborer avec des leaders en santé à travers le monde afin de relier la recherche à des retombées concrètes.

Certaines des expériences les plus marquantes de Navjot sont liées à la vie étudiante et au mentorat. Elle a toujours joué un rôle actif dans la vie étudiante, tant au premier cycle qu’à la faculté de droit. À l’Université McMaster, elle a été conseillère en résidence et mentore par les pairs, soutenant ses collègues étudiants tant sur le plan personnel qu’académique. Cette passion pour le développement communautaire s’est poursuivie en droit, où elle occupe des rôles de leadership dans des associations étudiantes telles que la Women’s Legal Education Association et la Sikh Law Students’ Association, contribuant à organiser des événements, des programmes de mentorat et des initiatives de sensibilisation.

En dehors de l’école, Navjot aime travailler sur des projets entrepreneuriaux, faire du kayak, découvrir de nouveaux restaurants et cafés, admirer les couchers de soleil, voyager et passer du temps de qualité avec sa famille, ses amis et son chien Enzo.

Kate Wiznura, Étudiante d’été

Kate poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université de l’Alberta et se réjouit de se joindre à DWF en tant qu’étudiante d’été en 2025. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, Kate a complété un baccalauréat ès arts à l’Université McGill, avec une majeure en littérature anglaise et en philosophie, ainsi qu’un autre baccalauréat ès arts, cette fois en psychologie, à l’Université de l’Alberta.

Tout au long de ses études en droit, Kate a nourri son engagement envers le droit et sa communauté grâce à son implication au sein de Student Legal Services et du Women’s Law Forum. Par l’intermédiaire de Student Legal Services, Kate a travaillé avec des personnes à faible revenu afin de régler leurs affaires criminelles dans son rôle de coordonnatrice de projet en droit criminel. Cette expérience lui a permis de perfectionner ses compétences en plaidoirie, d’acquérir une expérience en litige et devant les tribunaux, d’établir des liens avec d’autres professionnels du droit et d’apprendre à gérer des dossiers clients. Son rôle de coprésidente du Women’s Law Forum lui a permis de contribuer directement à la vie étudiante en organisant des conférences pour aborder les enjeux auxquels font face les femmes dans le domaine du droit, en plus de participer à diverses initiatives communautaires.

Kate est enthousiaste à l’idée de rejoindre l’équipe de Calgary chez DWF. Elle a hâte d’acquérir une expérience juridique pratique et de développer ses compétences dans un environnement aussi collégial.

Dans ses temps libres, Kate aime participer à des compétitions de saut d’obstacles avec ses chevaux et passer du temps avec son chien Scarlett, un Grand Pyrénées.

Victor Yoon, Étudiant d’été

Victor poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université de l’Alberta.

Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, il a obtenu un baccalauréat spécialisé ès arts en psychologie de l’Université Western Ontario. Pendant ses études en droit, Victor s’est activement impliqué dans la communauté juridique grâce à son bénévolat auprès de Student Legal Services, un organisme qui offre des services juridiques à la communauté à faible revenu. En deuxième année, il est retourné au sein de l’organisme comme coordonnateur de projet (Day Leader), assumant un rôle de leadership en supervisant et en encadrant les étudiants bénévoles. Grâce à ce rôle, Victor a acquis une expérience pratique tant à l’intérieur qu’à l’extérieur de la salle d’audience, en aidant des personnes accusées d’une variété d’infractions criminelles et réglementaires.

Dans ses temps libres, Victor aime jouer au basketball et au golf, faire du ski, découvrir de nouvelles saveurs de crème glacée et passer du temps avec son chien, Luna.

Brandon Johnson, Étudiant d’été

Brandon Johnson poursuit actuellement son Juris Doctor à l’Université de la Saskatchewan, après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en commerce (avec distinction) ainsi qu’un certificat en philosophie, tous deux de l’Université de la Saskatchewan.

Pendant ses études en droit, Brandon s’est classé deuxième à la Canadian National Negotiation Competition (CNNC) et représentera maintenant l’équipe du Canada à l’International Negotiation Competition (INC) à Londres, en Angleterre, en juillet 2025. Il a également fait partie de l’équipe des Law Games 2024 de l’Université de la Saskatchewan, remportant la Law Games Cup et se classant deuxième à la Moot Cup.

Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, Brandon a nourri sa passion pour les affaires et l’entrepreneuriat en fondant une société de conseil en marketing numérique et en dirigeant le Company Program de Junior Achievement Saskatchewan, un organisme sans but lucratif qui aide les étudiants à développer des compétences pratiques en entrepreneuriat, en préparation au marché du travail et en littératie financière.

Dans ses temps libres, Brandon aime faire du camping en arrière-pays, cuisiner et perfectionner son élan au softball (slo-pitch).

Brandon a hâte de contribuer à l’équipe de DWF, d’approfondir ses connaissances en litige et en négociation et de bâtir des relations durables.

Amneet Saimbi, Étudiante d’été

Amneet poursuit actuellement ses études en droit (JD) à la Peter A. Allard School of Law de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique. Avant d’entreprendre ses études en droit, elle a complété un baccalauréat ès sciences à l’UBC, figurant au Tableau d’honneur du doyen. Durant son premier cycle, Amneet a fait beaucoup de bénévolat dans divers milieux communautaires, notamment dans un refuge pour animaux, dans un hôpital et avec le programme UBC Red Cross Outreach.

À Allard, Amneet s’implique activement dans la communauté étudiante. Elle occupe le poste de vice-présidente de la Social Welfare Law and Policy Society, fait du bénévolat auprès de Legal Education Outreach, offrant des ateliers sur divers sujets juridiques dans les écoles secondaires locales, et agit comme mentor (« 1L Buddy ») pour les nouveaux étudiants. Elle contribue également à la Revue canadienne de droit de la famille en tant que rédactrice, perfectionnant ainsi ses compétences en recherche juridique et en rédaction.

L’engagement d’Amneet envers la défense des droits et l’apprentissage pratique se reflète dans son travail avec le UBC Innocence Project, où elle a développé des compétences en communication avec les clients, en analyse critique de dossiers, en recherche juridique et en rédaction de documents à l’appui de demandes de révision pour condamnations injustifiées.

Dans ses temps libres, Amneet aime pratiquer le yoga chaud dans son studio Oxygen Yoga local, lire des romans policiers et passer du temps au parc à chiens avec sa golden retriever, Daisy. Elle est enthousiaste à l’idée d’apprendre de ses pairs et de ses collègues et de croître tant sur le plan personnel que professionnel au sein de DWF cet été.

Gabriella Swanson, Étudiante d’été

Gabriella se joint à DWF après avoir obtenu son diplôme de la Schulich School of Law à l’Université Dalhousie. Avant la faculté de droit, elle a obtenu un baccalauréat en arts avec spécialisation en entrepreneuriat de l’Université Saint Mary’s.

Après ses études de premier cycle, elle a fondé et vendu sa propre petite entreprise, qu’elle exploitait à partir d’un Westfalia Vanagon de 1985 pendant cinq ans. Cette expérience lui a offert une immersion complète dans la résolution de problèmes (autrement dit, l’entretien de véhicules anciens).

En parallèle, elle a travaillé dans le domaine de l’enseignement postsecondaire à titre de gestionnaire de programme, où elle aidait des étudiants en situation de handicap à accéder à des occasions d’emploi équitables. Cette expérience a éveillé sa passion pour la défense des droits et l’a menée à entreprendre une carrière en droit.

Pendant ses études en droit, Gabriella a occupé le poste de gestionnaire du Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service, où elle soutenait les étudiants lors d’audiences disciplinaires et académiques. À sa dernière année, elle a complété une session à l’étranger à Belfast, en Irlande du Nord, ce qui lui a permis d’élargir sa perspective mondiale et de voyager à travers l’Europe.

En dehors du travail, Gabriella aime faire du camping, découvrir de nouveaux passe-temps et passer du temps avec ses deux chats, ses amis et sa famille.

Namrita Taggar‌‌‌, Étudiante d’été

Namrita est diplômée du programme de JD de la Osgoode Hall Law School et se joint à nous à titre de stagiaire en droit pour la période 2025-2026. Pendant son passage à Osgoode, Namrita a développé un intérêt pour le litige et la résolution de différends grâce à sa participation à des concours de plaidoirie, à des cliniques juridiques et à un séminaire sur la médiation. Elle a également agi comme mentore pour les étudiants des années supérieures et assistante de recherche au sein du comité de recrutement du corps professoral d’Osgoode.

Avant de se joindre à notre cabinet, elle a travaillé au service juridique d’une entreprise multinationale ainsi que pour une importante société de services professionnels. Ces deux postes lui ont permis d’acquérir une expérience pratique en recherche et en rédaction juridiques, tout en développant une approche axée sur le client. Elle est impatiente de mettre à profit ces expériences au cours de son stage.

En dehors du bureau, Namrita aime expérimenter en cuisine, passer du temps avec son labradoodle et planifier son prochain voyage.

Lynley Gordon-Mason, Summer Student

Lynley is currently pursuing her JD at the University of Victoria, Faculty of Law. Prior to attending law school, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan.

During law school, Lynley has developed a strong interest in litigation and client advocacy. She has gained practical experience through her work at The Law Centre, where she assists clients with a range of legal issues, including tenancy, human rights, and civil matters. She also completed a co-op term with the Ministry of Health, where she contributed to policy and legal research initiatives. In addition, Lynley has volunteered with AC Friends of Court, where she assisted self-represented litigants in understanding legal procedures and completing court forms.

In her spare time, Lynley can often be found on the tennis court or soccer field, out for a run, or enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

Elizabeth Laplante, Summer Student

Elizabeth is currently pursuing her JD at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, where she completed a thesis in cognitive neuroscience.
During law school, Elizabeth was a student clinician with the International Justice and Human Rights Clinic where she conducted legal research for the Canadian All Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery. She also volunteered with the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program and acts as a Legal Buddy for incoming first year students.

In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys playing volleyball, attending concerts, and spending time with family and friends. She is looking forward to joining the DWF team and continuing to develop her legal skills.

Ethan Keenan, Summer Student

Ethan is a student at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. Before law school, Ethan completed a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia. Ethan spent a year working as an office services clerk for a personal injury law firm and is excited to get back to working in the legal field.
During his time in law school, Ethan volunteered for the Student Legal Assistance program as an intake case worker and in the trial division. He recently received the top oralist prize in the Bennet Jones Health Law Moot which he and his team won after weeks of practice and guidance from their coaches.

Outside of academics, Ethan enjoys skiing, hiking, reading, cooking, and spending as much quality time as he can with his family, friends, and pets. He is excited to be back home in Vancouver and to begin his work at DWF.

Gabrielle Eisenberg, Summer Student

Gabrielle is pursuing her JD at the University of Victoria (UVic) Law School. She completed a Bachelor of Humanities Honors Degree at UVic, majoring in Greek and Roman Studies (Classics) and minoring in Film.

In her second year at UVic Law, she was the Health and Wellness Representative of the UVic Law Students Society, an AMICUS peer tutor, and a member of the Refugee Law Club. In the summer following 1L, Gabrielle worked as a Hearings Officer at Canadian Border Services through the UVic Co-Op program. As a hearings officer, she compiled her own files and disclosures and presented submissions before an IRCC tribunal. She looks forward to further refining her legal skills with DWF.
Before law school, Gabrielle was heavily involved in the UVic student community. She participated in the Humanities Scholars Program and received the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award (JCURA) for her research on propaganda film. Gabrielle also started the Wellness Journaling Club at the University of Victoria, which amassed over 800 members annually, and volunteered with inmates at the William-Head Institution.

Outside of school, Gabrielle enjoys boxing, hiking, and traveling. You can also catch her cafe-hopping around downtown Vancouver.

Hannah Van Laethem, Summer Student

Hannah is currently pursuing her JD at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. She holds a BA in Psychology from SFU, where she earned a certificate in legal studies and graduated with distinction.
During her undergraduate studies, Hannah volunteered extensively. She volunteered as a Crisis Responder at the Crisis Centre of BC, as a classroom assistant at an elementary school, and as a soccer coach with Special Olympics BC. Hannah also served as a Vice-President with the FentaNIL Project, a student-led club aimed at fighting the opioid crisis through harm reduction.
While pursuing her JD, Hannah continued to work at the Crisis Centre of BC in a supervisory role. She also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and acts as a student buddy for incoming students. She also completed a co-op with the Ministry of Attorney General's Small Claims Division, where she had the opportunity to appear in BC Supreme Court twice as a 2L student.

In her spare time, Hannah enjoys working out, playing on an intramural soccer team with her law school friends, watching Survivor, and spending time with her cat, Rufus.

Audrene Keshavarzi, Summer Student

Audrene is currently completing her JD at Thompson Rivers University. Prior to law school, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Law and Society.
Throughout law school, Audrene has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and community engagement. She currently serves as Co-President of the Society of Law Students at TRU, having previously held the role of 1L Chair. She has competed as a semi-finalist in the Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Law Moot. She has also contributed to DEI initiatives through her work with FACL in collaboration with Pro Bono Students Canada.
Prior to law school, Audrene gained valuable experience at DWF Canada as a Legal Administrative Assistant from 2022 to 2024, and she is thrilled to return to the firm as a Summer Articling Student.

Outside of work, Audrene enjoys spending time with her friends and going to Pilates!

Kai Kuypers, Summer Student

Kai is working to complete his JD at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law.
Prior to beginning Law School, Kai received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Carleton University. Kai worked in Restaurant Management for two years, instilling a passion for customer service and a deep care for teamwork and the development of business strategies.
During Law School, Kai has volunteered for the Pro Bono Students Canada chapter and is a Vice President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Club.

Outside of school, Kai has a deep passion for travel and cooking and hopes to bring a diverse perspective to his future legal practice.

Matthew Lennon, Summer Student

Matt is an aspiring litigator heading into 3L at the UCalgary Faculty of Law. In 1L, Matt volunteered with Student Legal Assistance and received the Top Oralist award in the McGillivray Moot. In 2L, his team won the Bennett Jones Health Law moot.
After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Calgary in 2016, Matt worked as a geoscientist in oil and mining exploration. Afterward, he worked as a software engineer and technical consultant for IBM.
Matt spent the previous summer interning for Pro Bono Law Alberta, a non-profit supporting self-represented litigants across the province. There, he helped PBLA streamline client management and reporting processes while shadowing volunteer lawyers as they assisted clients.
Matt currently has an interest in many areas of law, including Employment & Labour, Privacy & Cybersecurity, Antitrust & Consumer Protection, Access to Justice, and Contracts.

In his spare time, Matt likes to walk his dog (Winnie), bike, hike, play basketball and watch movies his wife (Olivia) and cats (Gale, Zephyr & Brodie).

Holly Kletke, Summer Student

Holly is attending law school at Thompson Rivers University. She is an enthusiastic participant in the moot program, having recently competed in the Canadian rounds of the Jessup Moot. She is also Co-President of the Oral Advocacy Club and helps organize the annual Dean’s Cup moot competition for TRU. Additionally, she loved being a teacher’s assistant for first year constitutional law. Outside of school, she is a Board Director for the Interior Women’s Centre Society and sings with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra Choir.
Prior to law school, Holly obtained her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Lethbridge. While at the UofL, she was President of the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union, where she advocated on behalf of the student body. She also worked as a Government Relations Officer, where she was honoured to gain valuable mentorship from her colleagues.

In her spare time, Holly likes to spend time with friends, go to spin and Pilates classes, and work on her golf swing. She is excited to join the DWF team and develop her skills as a future lawyer.

Noor Ulain, Summer Student

Noor is currently pursuing her JD at Thompson Rivers University. Prior to law school, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Thompson Rivers University.
During law school, she has taken on leadership roles as an executive member of both TRU Legal Networking Club and the TRU Law Health and Policy Club. She also volunteers weekly with the Kamloops Women's Centre and serves as a mentor to incoming law students.

In her spare time, she enjoys Pilates, rollerblading, reading mystery novels, and travelling. She is looking forward to a wonderful summer with the Calgary team at DWF.

Carolyn Smith, Summer Student

Carolyn is currently pursuing her JD at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law. Prior to law school, she earned her Bachelor’s of Social Sciences in Political Science and History from the University of Ottawa in 2022.

Between her undergraduate degree and law school, Carolyn served as the operations manager for the 2023 Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference. She also spent time as a researcher at a government relations firm in Ottawa, working with clients from all sectors of the economy.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, and playing board games.

Elena Penner, Summer Student

Elena is currently pursuing her JD at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law (TMU). She moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2018 to complete her Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, where she graduated with distinction. She double majored in Human Biology and Nutrition.
Elena brings diverse work experience, including supporting long-term care homes in Vancouver during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to law school, she also gained valuable experience in Toronto’s hospitality industry, working at a variety of restaurants.
Throughout her academic journey, Elena has sought opportunities to challenge herself and engage with the community. As a volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada, she contributed to the work of Kensington Bellwoods Community Legal Services, providing support to low-income residents in Toronto. In 2026, she and her partner placed second in the Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition.

Outside of her studies, Elena enjoys traveling, staying active through workout classes, and exploring Toronto’s vibrant coffee and dining scene.
Elena is thrilled to continue developing her skills and contributing to the work of DWF.

Sofiya Zadorozhna, Summer Student

Sofiya is currently pursuing a dual Canadian and American Juris Doctor at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto.
During law school, Sofiya gained practical experience through her work with the Juvenile Appellate Clinic, where she assisted on appeals before the Michigan Court of Appeals. She has participated in multiple moots, strengthening her oral advocacy and legal research skills, and is also a student mentor supporting first-year law students. In addition, she contributes to the legal community as a podcast host with Pro Bono Students Canada, helping make legal topics more accessible.
Prior to law school, Sofiya worked as a claim investigator, developing skills in liability assessment, negotiation, and client communication. She also worked as a research assistant in a clinical setting, supporting research on medical outcomes and data management.

In her spare time, Sofiya enjoys travelling, skiing, staying active, and spending time with her two dogs.

Erin Vowles, Summer Student

Erin is currently pursuing her JD at Western Law. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Social and Political Thought and has received her certificate in the Study of Law and Public Policy from King’s University College.
Throughout law school, Erin has fostered her passion for advocacy through her work as a Program Manager with Western Law’s Sport Solution Clinic. Within her role, she has assisted Canadian high-performance athletes on a variety of legal matters related to SafeSport, team selection and carding disputes. Erin also interned with Western Law’s Dispute Resolution Centre which honed both her mediation and negotiation skills.
Erin continues to be actively involved in student life as both a Western Law Student Ambassador and a Western Women in Law mentor to pre-law students.

Outside of school, Erin enjoys teaching dance classes, watching live theatre productions, and spending time with her friends and family.

Beatrice Lowson, Summer Student

Beatrice is currently completing her JD at Schulich Law School at Dalhousie University. Before attending law school, Beatrice completed her Master of Arts in History from the University of Waterloo, with a focus on the history of Haudenosaunee environmental governance. During her Masters, she worked in various research assistant positions, including with Longhouse Labs and the Six Nations Lands & Resources Department. Beatrice also holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, Honours, with a minor in Environment, Resources, and Sustainability from the University of Waterloo.
At law school, Beatrice serves as the co-President of OUTLaw and the Dalhousie Law Hiking Society. She has also worked as a research assistant for a project on Indigenous disability supports in Nova Scotia and as a summer student at a justice-oriented non-profit law firm in Halifax. Next year, Beatrice will attend Osgoode’s Indigenous Program in Indigenous Lands, Resources & Governance.
In her free time, Beatrice enjoys hiking, cafe-hopping, knitting, and pub trivia.

Sarah Awamleh, Summer Student

Sarah is currently pursuing her JD at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McMaster University.
Prior to law school, Sarah gained experience in legal, corporate, and operational roles across a range of industries. Most recently, she has worked with a U.S.-based staffing company supporting live events and festivals. She also contributed to the launch of the Canadian affiliate of an international pharmaceutical company in the oncology sector, where she supported executive leadership, coordinated cross-border operations, and managed compliance, procurement, and internal policy initiatives. Sarah’s legal experience includes working at a criminal litigation firm, where she supported lawyers with client communications and general operations. She also enjoys staying active and worked with the McMaster University Department of Athletics and Recreation during her undergraduate studies.
She looks forward to continuing to develop her advocacy, research, and problem-solving skills in practice.
Outside of school, Sarah brings an international perspective, having lived in Dubai and Milan before settling in Canada.

In her free time, she enjoys creative projects such as crocheting and colouring, travelling, trying new foods, and spending time with family and friends.
