Profile

Mario Delgado is a Partner in DWF’s Toronto office and a senior litigation lawyer trusted by insurers, underwriters, municipalities, and institutional clients to manage complex, high‑exposure insurance disputes. He is routinely retained on factually intensive and legally challenging matters where the stakes are significant, and the issues demand strategic judgment, decisiveness, and experienced advocacy.

Mario’s practice encompasses construction litigation, major property and environmental losses, product liability, professional indemnity, abuse claims, employment‑related human rights disputes, and class actions. He is regularly engaged by insurers, underwriters, self‑insured entities, municipalities, and other institutional clients across a broad range of industries, providing strategic advice and advocacy in matters where careful risk management and decisive litigation strategy are essential.

He is frequently entrusted with files involving sensitive allegations, reputational risk, and complex evidentiary records, including matters presenting aggregate, systemic, or class action exposure, and is adept at navigating disputes that require a careful balance of legal rigour, discretion, and practical resolution. Mario is particularly valued for his ability to cut through complexity, identify the key drivers of risk, and advance strategies aligned with his clients’ commercial, operational, and public‑sector objectives.

Mario is often engaged at an early stage of a dispute to provide strategic advice, risk assessment, and claims management guidance, including in matters involving class action risk, coverage considerations, and pre‑certification strategy, and regularly defends cases through litigation, mediation, and appeal.

An experienced advocate, Mario appears regularly before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and administrative and regulatory tribunals. He has extensive experience managing matters involving voluminous documentary records, expert evidence, and sensitive witness testimony, including in complex, multi‑party and class proceedings.

Clients and colleagues recognize Mario for his calm, pragmatic approach, his responsiveness, and his ability to manage difficult files efficiently while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes.
