Profile

Laura is an experienced public law litigator.  She has advised and represented clients on duty to consult, the implementation of modern and historic Treaties, and complex environmental and public law issues.  Laura has lived and practiced in BC, Alberta, Nunavut and Ontario. She has a Master of Laws (LLM) from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Laura has appeared before all levels of Court federally and in Ontario and has appeared before a range of courts and administrative tribunals in other jurisdictions.  She litigates complex issues involving Indigenous rights, human rights and environmental law.  Laura has acted as lead counsel litigating and negotiating numerous politically sensitive and scientifically complex major projects and environmental decisions on behalf of Indigenous rights-holders, environmental organizations and individuals.

Laura develops comprehensive strategies for her clients that use litigation as one of many tools to achieve her clients’ goals.  She is a creative thinker who integrates multiple constitutional, environmental law and Indigenous law tactics.  She prides herself on understanding and respecting the integrity of the scientific, historic and cultural aspects of her clients’ matters.

In her spare time Laura enjoys cross-country skiing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding and cycling in natural areas and playing music with her two small children and spouse.  She is currently on the Board of the Canadian Food Law and Policy Association and volunteers for other environmental and health organizations.
